The blade is a large robust shinogi-zukuri katana and is signed, "Hizen kuni Tadahide" with an ubu one hole nakago, in full recent Japanese polish. The hada is a classical and beautiful Hizen nashagi (pear skin) with an undulating sugaha. The kissaki has an extended form and continues in sugaha with a short turnback. The habaki is gold foil covered with a fine cat-scratched surface. The kiri wood shirasaya was custom made for the blade at the time of polish. 69.8cm. blade nagasa. Included with the polished blade is its fine professionally restored koshirae. The tsuba is a large Mito iron work carved with the design of geese flying over a marsh. The tsuka has outstanding fittings and fine same with blue silk ito. The fuchi/kashira are a matched pair of high quality shakudo with inlayed shore birds in high relief flying above a beach with thick gold nunome accents, while the matched pair of menuki are again shakudo with flowers in a gold nunome woven basket. The saya is beautifully restored in rough textured black ishimi lacquer , water buffalo horn fittings and blue silk sageo that perfectly matches the saya ito. An exact copy wooden sunagi of the live blade completes the koshirae. This handsome offering is fine in everyway. With the addition of a fine kake (sword stand) you will have an outstanding complete katana presentation for your collection.
