# ETR1 - A Good Original European Transitional Rapier, ca. 1670 - $ 3500.00

A well made European transitional rapier with German blade. Lovely pillow-shaped pommel of flattened hexagonal section, finely hammered quillon block with lobed and slightly recurved quillons, terminated with a small button. Rudimentary, flat pas d'anes rest in the juncture of the two shell guards. The shell guards are well executed with a pierced basketweave pattern; the outer shell slightly larger than the inner. The blade lettered in the fullers "IOHANN _____ICH", and "IHN SOLINGEN". The hilt of this sword was originally entirely covered in silver foil, of which small remnants are still present in spots. The hilt retains its original wooden grip (now lacking the wire binding) and the sword does not appear to have ever been apart. An excellent original untouched example with lovely uncleaned patina. Blade 82.7cm, overall about 99.5cm.
