6850.00
A fine rapier of classic English form with chiseled iron Norman type 86 hilt incorporating recurved quillons with terminals of acanthus leaf form, shallow pierced dish guard, heavily decorated with chiseled busts, presumably representing James VI and I, amid a background of leaves. The fig-shaped pommel of deeply chiseled iron. The grip of square section with helical ribbing, with old wire binding and turks' heads. Later hollow-ground blade of flattened diamond section, possibly a working life replacement. Very good condition throughout; hilt cleaned, blade polished, grip binding with a break in the wire and slightly loose, but stable, beneath the pommel. Very long blade; the blade 107 cm., overall 125.5 cm.
