An Early 17th Century Italian Crab-claw Hilted Rapier - $

A fine original sword, ca. 1620-1630. The hilt incorporating a fine faceted urn-shaped pommel with baluster button, two pairs of crab-claw style quillons, three concentric side rings and a scalloped shell-guard; the rings and quillons with filed appointments. Blade of flattened hexagonal section, marked in the shallow fuller "VIVA HORATIO" (reverse) and "IHESV * MARIA" (obverse). Blade reseated, grip wrap may be replaced, blade lightly cleaned.
