A Small Silver Mounted Nepalese Kukri, ca. 19th Century - $

A 19th century Nepalese kukri of small proportion in its original silver-mounted sheath. The grip of carved hardwood with single ring above a decoratively carved band. The pommel plain and uncapped, the bolsters of iron. Double-fullered hand-forged steel blade, very sharp, with well-filed cho and sharply ridged spine, etched to the obverse "IITISINFIGITIS." The sheath of black grained asshide over a wooden core with beautifully embossed and chased silver chape. The locket, now missing, would have no doubt exhibited fine pierced and embossed work. Overall basically GC; missing the locket, now bound at the throat with black cloth tape, the chape with a small loss to the silver at the obverse and a cut at the toe, the leather with small losses and age wear. The pommel with a large chip to the top edge of the wood. The blade with several small dings and nicks to the cutting edge and scattered superficial dark spotting, with one small area of light pitting. Blade 28 cm., overall in sheath 43 cm.
