# BQ2286 - An Original WWII Period Samurai Style Mounted, Katana, Signed - $ 1980.00

The mountings are original to the sword and a leather weather cover was added in period for military use. Appears to have a water tempered handmade blade in Sanbon Suji (Three Cedar) hamon; very attractive. Signed on the nakago, “Seki ju Kanenaga(?) Saku,” and undated with a Showa stamp. A very fine blade in excellent original polish with only slight scuffs. The mounts are also in excellent condition with tachi style silver washed brass fuchi/kashira, matched floral motif menuki and original black ito wrap. The tsuba is heavy plain silver washed brass. Under the leather cover the traditional saya is lacquered black. The leather strap for the snap closure is torn but the snap is intact, thus a repair may be possible. It is very uncommon to find a traditionally mounted Showa period katana with leather weather cover for military use in such a fine condition. 63.9 cm. nagasa, 95 cm. overall.
