#SRCC1 – U.S. Army "56" Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine, Ser. #10585 – $3000.00
A good Spencer repeating rifle with low serial number -- Flayderman lists these as having serial numbers ranging from 11,000 to 61,000 (Flayderman, 2002). These rifles were personally endorsed by President Lincoln and were widely used during both the Civil War and Indian Wars. This example is fitted with the Stabler cut-off, permitting use as a single shot, but the 22" barrel is not sleeved for a smaller caliber as indicated by Flayderman. These alterations were executed by Springfield Armory ca. 1867-1874. Stock marked clearly "ESA" within an oval cartouche. The top of the receiver is stamped "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO BOSTON MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6 1860". Both sideplates stamped with the inspector's 'V'. Untouched, and overall NRA VG; Overall 39".
